RD #18, 2 nd District
Daviess County, KY

Cecil (p. 67) misidentifies this as RD #10, but provides information about early history. He suggests that it was originally operated by Alexander Hill and W H Perkins, and that they sold out in 1881 to J T Welch.

By 1889, ownership had changed to A Rosenfield and Abe Hirsch.

Information from insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 identify A Rosenfield as being the owner. At that time, the distillery property included the still house (frame with a shingle roof), three warehouses, and cattle pens some 50 ft from an iron-clad boiler house.

Bonded Warehouse "A" was located 200 ft SE of the still and was brick and iron-clad frame construction. A Free warehouse adjoined "A", 250 ft from the still and was iron-clad. A new Bonded Warehouse "B" was 300 ft south of the still and was also iron-clad frame construction.

Wathen Bros acquired the property with the enactment of Prohibition and it continued operations under various names until at least the 1970s. (Cecil, 1999)
