I'll start with an overview of the show floor to give you a sense of size. This was a West-coast show and prices on shots tend to be much higher than back East, so I wasn't expecting to pick too much off the tables. The shots I bought back with me came mainly from Paul Van Vactor's stash (Paul and Pat had driven out from Louisville to set up at the show -- I hate to think how many miles they put on their minivan every year!), and from a private deal worked out with one of the collectors I talked with. By way of example, here's a Blue Wing from St. Louis with wear to the lower lines; the price tag on it reads $235. We've seen some pretty impressive prices for Blue Wings on eBay recently, but condition is an issue here.

Here's a nice selection found on Jim & Julie Dennis' table. The best is probably the "Remington Liquor Co." glass with the familiar horse and rider inscription. I believe it was marked at $300 but the owners would have discounted it to $285. It's a glass that I might have considered buying had I not already owned a mint example.
Steve Abbott ("fokid" on eBay), who we'll visit with later, is a Sacramento collector who also had a sales table at the show. He had some pristine CA glass on offer, including several nice minty Sacramento shots (e.g. above).
I also happened to spy a rare Kansas City glass - the "Imperial Distilling Co." perched on the top shelf of the display at right. This booth was owned by Rick and Karen Hopwood - if you want to check on availability, drop them a line at rkhop at cableone dot net. |
