Fortunately, the day was saved by Paul (above) and Pat Van Vactor who had traveled up from Louisville with a substantial amount of glass in the shape of shots, beers, and bottles.
Paul is one the original pre-pro collectors and in pre-eBay years was one of
the few reliable sources of shot glasses via his annual mailings.
Surprisingly, this was Paul and Pat's first year at the Baltimore show. The
Phys. Ed. center holds around 300 tables, enough to swallow most of the
other east-coast bottle clubs combined. But the show's reputation is such
that the organizers receive far more applications than they can accommodate,
so there's a waiting list for exhibitor space. This means
that new dealers have to plan ahead if they're to win a coveted table. I always enjoy chatting with Pat and Paul, but in the urgency of the hunt I pulled out five shots (shown at right: yes that is a rare gold-trimmed enamel transfer glass!) and asked them to set them aside for me and then continued on. |
