The company was established by Reuben Lichtenstein. In 1909, he purchased Levi Price's Distillery in Green Valley, MD., now operating as the Lichtenstein Distilling Co.

A letterhead from the company dated 1904 reads "S Lichtenstein": perhaps this referred to Reuben's wife Sarah?

The company used the brand names:
"Hickory Hill Rye", "Kingston Pure Rye", "Knobley Pure White", "Levi Price Pure Rye", "Old Bailey", and "Pocomoke."
