A framed tin sign featuring a chromolithographed advertisement for Herald whiskey, from Goodhart, Hartman Co. of Chicago, IL. The sign measures 39" x 29" and was made by the American Art Sign Co., of Brooklyn, NY.
The sign features the trademark image of a knave with horn and sword at center with a castle in the muted background. The four corners of the sign show scenes of the company operations, beginning with the bottling department at upper left (shown here) and progressing clockwise: the blending room, the office, and finally, barrels of Herald whiskey maturing in racks.
The owner of the sign relates that it hung in her great-grandfather's hotel-bar, which closed circa 1917.
