J C Childs & Co. listed from 1885-1902.

Childs was born in Bakersfield in Franklin County, VT in 1859. The 1885 New York business directory shows him to be sole proprietor of J. C. Childs, wholesale liquor dealer, located at 669 Third Avenue. He was 26 at that time. Childs was a distributor and rectifier. He was still operating in the company in 1915 but the 1920 census shows him to be printing a newspaper and living on West 31st Street in Manhattan.

Brand names used by this company include: "Golden Wedding", "Monitor Blend Rye", "Old Rip Rye", "Sherwood", "Storm King Rye", "T. J. M.", and "Unrivalled."
