The W B Samuels & Co. Distillery

1869: The Samuels distillery was located at Samuels Depot on the L&N railroad. When W B Samuels acquired it in 1869, it had a daily mashing capacity of 50 bu.

1892: Insurance underwriter records describe the distillery as being of frame construction with a shingle roof. The property included thee iron-clad warehouses:
Warehouse No. 1 -- 110 ft west of the still.
Warehouse No. 2 -- adjoining No. 1
Warehouse No. 3 -- 230 ft west of the still and 6 feet from No. 1.

At that time, it was being operated by W B Samuels & Co.

1895: Capacity had increased to 228 bu. George R Burks of Loretto had joined the company as a junior partner.

1916: The company reorganized with J B Armstrong as President. They were producing Cutter whiskey for C P Moorman & Co.

1920: The distillery closed for good at Prohibition
