The Ballard & Lancaster Distillery |
Cecil (1999) notes that Richard Cummins acquired the Ballard & Lancaster distillery in 1882. His son, J P Cummins, took control in 1891. Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of frame construction. The property included two warehouses: Warehouse A -- iron-clad with a metal or slate roof and located 170 ft north of the still. Warehouse B -- brick with a composite roof, located 110 ft north of the still At that time, it was being operated by R Cummins & Co., "late Ballard & Lancaster". The insurance records show the distillery as being located 10 miles west of Lebanon, in Loretto. Cecil notes that Cummins sold out to the Trust which continued operations as the Winston Drug Co. It was closed and dismantled at Prohibition. |
