The S O Hackley Distillery |

There is anecdotal evidence that the distillery was founded in 1880 by S O Hackley. 1884: John Colter, Proprietor. (Louisville City Directory). 1889: Hackley took on Ike Hoffman as partner (Cecil 1999). 1892: Insurance underwriter records indicate that the distillery was stone with a shingle roof. The property included a single bonded warehouse (part Free), located 100 ft west of the still. At that time, it was being operated by the Hoffman Distillery Co., also doing business as S O Hackley (among others: see below). 1912: Cecil suggests that Hoffman, who was now sole owner, went bankrupt and the distillery was no longer running by 1916.
