The Old Lewis Hunter Distillery |
This distillery was located 400 feet from the Excelsior Distillery: RD #38. Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of brick construction and included a single bonded warehouse, also of brick construction with a metal or slate roof, 125 ft NE of the still. At that time, it was run as Sharp Distilling Co., The G R Sharp Co.Cecil (1999) notes that Sharp was killed in 1902 by a boat explosion on the Pacific. The distillery was then acquired by the Trust. The Old Lewis Hunter brand was introduced by Julius Kessler. The distillery was closed temporarily by Prohibition but did not cease operations until 1974. |
