The Crescent Distillery

The Crescent Distillery was located on the K C R R at Cynthiana. It was bought in 1868 by C B Cook, later operating as C B Cook & Co. after William Adams had been admitted as a partner (1874).

By 1882, the distillery had a capacity of 150 bushels per day, producing 2,500 barrels per year. The distillery employed twenty hands at average wages of $2 per day. The distillery building was 35 x 70 ft in size with three floors and three brick warehouses with storage capacity for 8,000 barrels. There was also an attached cooper-shop with capacity of 3,000 to 4,000 barrels per annum, and the grounds housed 800 hogs.

Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of frame construction and the property included cattle shed 5 ft from the distillery. The distillery included two bonded warehouses:
Warehouse No. 6 -- brick with a metal or slate roof, 50 ft east of the still.
Warehouse "B" -- 12 ft from Warehouse No. 6, 114 ft east of the still. This warehuse was iron-clad.

The owners were shown to be The C B Cook Co.
