The Redmon Distillery
RD #15, 6 th District
Harrison County, KY

The distillery was built by John T Redmon in 1859, but it had a succession of owners. In 1880, it was purchased by the Redmon Distilling Co. (Thomas Hinkson, President; L Van Hook, Treasurer; J A Wolford, Secretary; S J Ashbrook and W A Cook, Directors). The distillery by now had a capacity of 160 bushels per day and two large brick warehouses with a capacity of 6,000 barrels, half of which were held in bond. The author (Perrin, 1882) notes that the distillery produced the brands “Redmon Distilling Co.” and “H.C. Ky.” and employed eight men at an average of $1.50 per day, making sweet mash whisky.

Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of frame construction. The property included cattle and hog pens located 6 ft from the distillery, and two brick warehouses. The warehouses had metal or slate roofs and held bonded and free stock. They were adjoining and located 265 ft east of the still.

At that time, the distillery was owned by the Redmon Distilling Co.
