The Mill Creek Distillery |
Cecil (1999) suggests that John and Andy Makemson ran a mill and still on a farm established by their father, David Makemson, in 1795. The Makemsons later sold out to G W Taylor. Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of frame construction. The property included a two bonded warehouses. The first was built of stone with a metal or slate roof and was located 70 ft NE of the still. A second adjoining warehouse was iron-clad and sat 110 ft east of the still. At that time, it was still owned by George W Taylor. In 1905, the Geo. W Taylor brand was sold to Wigglesworth Bros., (Cecil) but the fate of the disillery was not recorded. |
