The Arnold Spring Distillery |
The Arnold Spring Distillery was owned and operated by John Neville Blakemore, who Cecil (1999) notes was a "wealthy farmer." Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was frame construction with a metal or slate roof. The property included five warehouses, as follows: Warehouse A (free warehouse) -- frame with a shingle roof, 70 ft north of the still Warehouse B -- frame with a shingle roof, 100 ft NE of the still Warehouse C -- iron clad with a metal or slate roof, 200 ft east of the still Warehouse D -- iron clad with a metal or slate roof, 300 ft east of the still Warehouse E -- iron clad with a metal or slate roof, 420 ft east of the still. Blakemore died in 1898 and the distillery acquired by The Trust. Cecil suggests that it was torn down, but Internal Revenue records continued logging warehouse transactions under the name "J N Blakemore" until 1914 or later. |
