The Winstead Distillery |
1880: A news clipping on rootsweb (no longer accessible) suggests that the distillery was built by A S Winstead and Bona Hill, operating as Hill and Winstead. It was built on property previously owned by the Henderson Car Works. The capacity was around 20 barrels per day. 1892: Information from insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of brick and frame construction. The property included two frame warehouses, the first ("A") 100 ft south of the still and with a metal or slate roof, the second ("B") 275 SE and with a shingle roof. A S Winstead was succeeded by his son E W Winstead. |
