RD #6, 2 nd District
Union County, KY

Information from insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery property included three warehouses. The first (the Mutual warehouse, also being used by Hazlewood, King of KY, Maple Creek, National, Oak Leaf and Queen Bee Distilling Co's) was a 4-story iron structure 250 ft from the still house. The second (the Rich Grain, also being used by John G Roach and Smoke House Dist. Co.) was a 2-story iron-clad building, and the Standard warehouse was 1 story, iron clad. The three warehouses adjoined each other.

The records also note a detached barn with cattle, a spirit house, and iron-clad grain elevator and corn cribs. The still-house was a brick and iron-clad frame structure. Cecil (p. 149) adds that the still was being operated by J M Lancaster until 1878, the year that it was sold to John G Roach.

In 1890, the distillery was destroyed by fire (a $50,000 loss), although the warehouses survived.

Roach sold the still to Kentucky Distilleries & Warehouse Co. (the Trust) in 1892 and they rebuilt it and operated it as the Mutual Distillery Co., becoming the Union County Distilling Co. in 1905.
