Thomas (WBOW) describes how Weil brothers David, Joseph, Leopold and William bought out San Francisco wholesaler and distiller Frederick H Putzman in 1868 and they operated at the 213 Jackson St location until 1888. They became Weil Bros & Sons in 1887 and they survived the 1906 earthquake and continued operating until Prohibition in 1917. "Up to You" was the company's slogan.

"Nonpareil" was registered in 1887 by Eastern Dist., New York, NY and by in 1906 by W.L.Perkins & Co. St.Paul, MN. It was also used by Ullman Co., Cincinnati. "Nonpareil" was one of Weil Bros. & Sons' two main brands, the other being "Standard Old Bourbon".
