Braunschweiger & Co. listed from 1882-1913. HSG cites Snyder in thinking that the tsp initials on the keystone are that of the Oak Valley Distillery Co. Thomas (PCSF) suggests that the company was created in 1878 when Amandus Fenkhausen, who had prior experience as a liquor dealer in San Francisco, took on a partner in the form of Herman Braunschweiger. Their store was at 414 Front St. Braunschweiger learned the trade quickly and by 1882 became senior partner in a new business with Bumsted. Bumsted was bought out by 1885 and the firm continued as Braunschweiger & Co. The 1906 quake destroyed the company premises but Herman rebuilt and continued the business until retirement in 1913 Brand names used by this company include: "Bear Grass", "Bear Valley", "California Club", "Extra Pony", "Golden Chief", "Golden Cupid", "Golden Rule", "Golden Rule XXX Sour Mash Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey", "Oak Valley Distilling: Brunswick Extra Pony Pure Bourbon Whiskey", "Old Pioneer", and "Silver Wedding."
