CRANE, HASTINGS & CO |
Thomas suggests that this was a continuation of Gile, Hayes & Co, and was owned by silent partners in the original business, Byron J Crane and Everett L Hastings. Hastings dropped out of the partnership in the 1880's and was replaced by Charles E Benjamin. Benjamin dropped out prior to 1889 leaving Byron Crane in charge, but his son Arthur H Crane started work there as a clerk. When Byron retired in the early 1890's, Arthur became president. Arthur sold out to C W Craig & Co in 1895.
