Letterheads dated 1908 and 1911 show the company officers to be Wm. Bott (President), D.F. Cannon (VP) and M.J.Cannon, (Secretary and Treasurer). It also lists the company directors as being William Bott, D.F. Cannon, Jos. F. Bott, M.J. Cannon and H. L. Haigh.
The history and origins of the Bott and Cannon company have not yet been researched fully, but Bott was a famous name in Columbus.
Joseph Frank Bott, one of the company directors and shown in the photograph at right below, formed a partnership with his brother William to run a billiard hall located opposite the State House. Both brothers came to Columbus from Zanesville, OH, children of Magdelena and Casper Bott. The Botts were originally from Bavaria in Germany.
The Bott Bros. billiard hall was highly successful and allowed the pair to organize Bott Bros Manufacturing Co., which sold supplies, appliances, billiard tables and fixtures to other cafes and billiard halls.
J F Bott sold his interest in the manufacturing company in 1908 but remained as director of the Bott & Cannon Co.
Thanks to James Bott for sharing the results of his research into Bott family history.
