R.M. ROSE CO. |
OASG gives a history of the firm: Rufus Rose started out in Atlanta, GA as "The House of Rose". He later billed himself as "Rose the Distiller", then "R.M. Rose Co. Distiller". Altanta went dry for a brief period in the 1880's, forcing him to move to Chattanooga. When the Atlanta prohibition ended he moved back to GA but was forced out again when the state went dry in 1907. He operated in Chattanooga until 1916 when he sold out to Paul Jones Distilling Co., which is where their "Four Roses" brand was acquired. R.M. Rose Co. shows up in Chattanooga directories from 1909 to 1915 or later, located at 819-821 Chestnut. Rose also had offices in Jacksonville. FL (1916-1918), and New York City.
