The W H Head Distillery |
The history of this distillery comes mainly from Zoeller (2010) The distillery was built by W H Head two miles southwest of Raywick on the Rolling Fork River, but the exact date is uncertain. 1877: The plant was running under the W H Head & Co. banner. 1890: The distillery was operating at a a capacity of 80 bushels per day, producing eight barrels. The plant included two bonded warehouses that held 2,500 barrels. At this time, it was registered distillery #9 of the 5th District. 1907: The plant was aquired by H Rosenthal & Sons of Cincinnati, OH. The name of the distillery was later changed to William Berkele. 1908: Warehouse capacity was now up to 7,000 barrels. 1910: The distillery was torn down and rebuilt, generating a capacity of 200 bushels per day and supplying three bonded warehouses that held a total of 7,300 baarrels. 1920: The plant was closed upon Prohibition. |
