The White Mills distillery was located at Howard and 18th St (846-860 S 18 th). The date of establishment is not known, but from 1886 to 1895 it was being run by William S Harris. By 1896, it was being operated by the Hoffheimer Bros., wholesalers who were based in Cincinnati. Warehouse No. 2 B -- also located 75 ft west of the still, 14 ft north of No. 1. At that time, it was being operated as "White Mills Distillery", S A Hoffheimer, Proprietor, late W S Harris. Hoffheimer Bros Co. later added a second distillery on the site, which was known as the the Lynndale (RD #470, 5th District). Both continued to Prohibition, and then they were sold to G Lee redmon & Co., who used the plants for bottling whiskey to be sold for medicinal purposes. In 1924 the distilleries were sold to Brown-Forman, who continued bottling throughout Prohibition. They built a new plant on the site upon Repeal (Cecil 1999) |
