The Sugar Valley Distillery |
1806: The distillery was built on Simpson Creek, a half-mile NW of Bloomfield. 1889: The distillery was in the hands of David T Brooks, making the "Sugar Valley" brand. 1889: Brooks sold out to Bodine McClaskey & Son. The warehouse had a capacity of 2,500 barrels at this time (history from Cecil, 1999). 1892: Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 describe the distillery as of frame construction with a metal or slate roof. The property a single bonded warehouse which was frame with a shingle roof. It was located 142 ft north of the still. At that time, the still was being operated by B McClaskey & Son, late "Brooks & McClaskey." 1910: The plant was operated as the Sugar Valley Distilling Co., B McClaskey & Son.
