The Cold Spring Distillery |
The distillery is believed to have been built by J B Dant around 1865 (Downard, 1980) or 1880 (Cecil, 1999) on the L & N Railroad at Gethsemane Station. Dant supplied Taylor & Williams of Louisville with "Yellowstone" and other popular brands. Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was of frame construction. The property included two warehouses: Warehouse No. 1 -- iron-clad and located 100 ft south of the still. Part of the warehouse was Free. Warehouse No. 2 -- iron-clad and located 100 ft south of the still and 10 ft from No. 1. At that time, it was being operated by J B Dant as "Cold Spring Distilling Co and Taylor & Williams. By 1915, Taylor and Williams letterheads refer to this distillery as being the place of manufacture for Yellowstone. |
