The Bonnie Bros. Distillery |
The date of establishment is not known, but from at least 1893 to 1897, this was known as J G Mattingly & Sons' Distillery. Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was new and of frame construction, located between Bank & Tyler Sts. It adjoined warehouse No 1. The property included two warehouses: Warehouse No. 1 -- brick with a metal or slate roof and located 65 ft south of the still. Warehouse No. 2 -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 105 ft south of the still. A cattle barn was located 235 ft north of the still-house. At that time, it was being operated by J G Mattingly & Sons. Cecil (1999) notes that it was later know as the Park & Tilford distillery and continued operating under Schenley until 1957, was used for bottling and warehousing until the 1960's and then became a chemical plant. |
