1880: Distillery was built by J B Wathen and M A Wathen (Cecil, 1999) 1886: City directories show J B Wathen to be President and M A Wathen Secretary & Treasurer of J B Wathen & Bro. Co. 1892: Insurance underwriter records note that the distillery was brick. The plant included seven warehouses and three cattle sheds, construction as follows: Warehouse No. 1 A -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 65 ft south of the still. Warehouse No. 2 B -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 48 ft west of the still Warehouse No. 3 C -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 45 ft north of the still Warehouse No. 4 -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 130 ft south of the still Warehouse No. 5 -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 260 ft west of the still Warehouse No. 6 -- brick with a metal or slate roof, located 200 ft north of the still Free Warehouse -- brick, located 60 ft south of the still Cattle Sheds 1 & 2 -- frame, located 62 ft SW of the still Cattle Shed 3 -- frame, located 6 ft north of Warehouse C. At that time, it was being operated by J B Wathen & Bros. Co. , but it was supplying a large number of companies who were wholesalers and/or claiming to be distillers in their own right (see below). 1899: The distillery was sold to The Trust, who ran it until 1916 (Cecil, 1999).
