The Cedar Run Distillery |
This distillery was operating on the Kentucky River from at least 1884 (see Frankfort directories). Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was brick with a metal or slate roof. A cattle shed sat 75 ft east of the still. The distillery property included two warehouses one brick, one frame, both with metal or slate roofs. The former was located 75 ft north of the still house, the latter 250 ft north. The insurance records identify J & J M Saffell as owners. Internal Revenue records of warehouse transactions from 1903 and 1904 locate RD #91 (or at least its warehouses) in Paris, Bourbon Co., KY. In 1905, the Cedar Run was sold to The Trust, who operated it until Prohibition. |
