I really liked Maine! Maybe because the natives have the same surliness and arrogance as Brits, so I felt right at home.
But if you stay away from the tourist traps (and can we say "Hot Springs" anyone if we were to find an easy parallel in AR) the scenery is staggering, the people taciturn but friendly, the food reasonable and the roads quiet.
No friggin' shots withing 100 miles, but that's a different story....
