City Directory Listings Database
This page links you to a repository of information on the distillers and wholesalers who made a living from the liquor industry in the years leading up to Prohibition. As of writing (2020), it includes over 20,400 individual listings.
The framework for the database was constructed from information gleaned from city business directories, circa 1870 to 1920. Other liquor dealers are added as and when information becomes available.
Search the database for a name of interest using the form below. You can also browse a series of static listing pages organized by city. These pages were compiled using city business directories alone; the database contains many more dealers, towns, and cities than represented by the static pages. Click on the alphabetized links to view the pages, then follow the links to individual vendor listing pages.
